December baby, 1st birthday ideas

Hi all! My ds (first baby) will be 1 in December. He is the 1st grandchild on both sides and I'm already being asked for gift ideas for birthday and Christmas.

I don't want to go overboard as he won't know what is going on and will probably be more interested in the boxes 😂 But I also know that family are excited and to be honest I probably will be as it gets closer too.

A few ideas I have are books, clothes, baby duplo blocks (or something similar) some kind of big activity cube/shape shorter thing maybe? But I'm also thinking of asking for vouchers or cash, so that in the summer we can get him things for the garden like a swing or water /sand table.

I've already said we're almost definitely not having a party because A, he won't know wtf is going on and B, we probably won't be allowed one anyway! I think dh and I are gonna put the tree up and just have a day being silly with him.

Does that sound OK? Any other suggestions?? Thanks! 🙂

Clothes and a couple toys and money for his savings account. Honestly, you will have so much stuff in a couple years and they don't even know what's going on at this point. A lovely little party with just a few close family and a cake is really nice (more of a grown up get together, not a kid's party), COVID permitting obviously. The main present we got ours at 1 (was handed down to next one) was a wheely bug, which has had lots of use. Still used now and we got it for our eldest nearly 8 years ago. And then money for savings account, some of which we used to upgrade to an ERF car seat, which happens just after 1. It was money well spent.

Our DD is also 1 in December and we have decided to get her some outdoor toys, her main present being a swing (I know, I know, wrong time of year!). She gets fed up of being indoors and has a lot of stuff already, and even when it’s cold a swing will get a lot of use if we just wrap up warm.
