1 month old sleep patterns

Hi, I’m a FTM to a 1 month old boy. Hes recently been put on some gaviscon for reflux. He tends to sleep a fair bit during the day contently, only waking for feeds. But by night he seems really unsettled, crying for nearly an hour at a time and being fussy with a bottle of my expressed milk. I am exclusively breast feeding but want my husband to be able to help with feeds. He was fine when he was 1-2 weeks old. Is there any suggestions on what could be causing his unsettled evenings? Could his tummy acid be bad in the evenings? Any tips to help keep him a bit more content would be great x

This is just really normal at that age. Usually they like to feed and feed and just be held and comforted. You may find that a bottle of expressed milk doesn't cut it in the evening. Could your dh do an overnight feed instead if that helps instead or do the first morning one and let you get a lie in?

Sounds like cluster feeding. Up to 6 weeks if your husband is giving a bottle over night then you need to pump at the same time.

I pump every 2-3 hours in the evenings

That’s good. How do you find it? I hated pumping and never really managed to produce much milk.

I’ve got a pretty good milk supply. Over 2 double pumping sessions over 2 hours I can just about make a bottle. So I usually have 2 bottles in the fridge ready for him by the evening x

That’s great. I’m always amazed by any one who can express. DD2 was ebf until 6 months and we are just going at nearly 14 months but I just couldn’t express.

Sounds like he might have his days/ nights mixed up. My baby is 6 weeks and we went thru something similar, really noticed a difference that after 2-3 weeks she became more alert and we had to pay more attention to her naps/ sleeping etc. Make sure your baby has short windows of awake time during the day so she has her long sleep at night (watch for over tiredness) and you differentiate between day naps and night sleep (quieter, dark room etc)
3 weeks also classic cluster feeding time so may need to feed very frequently . We tried to tank up her feeds during the day too so she wasn’t catching up at night. Even if this meant waking her up to feed
