Flying with baby in corona times

Hi all,

Next week I’m flying home (2 hours) to attend a family funeral. My son will be 5 months old.

I’ve been reading tips on flying with babies but I’m particularly interested to hear from people who have flown with children during the new corona regulations. I’m assuming movement in the plane will be restricted and of course masks will be worn.

It’s all starting to make me a bit nervous as my son had previously reacted badly in situations where I have been wearing a mask.

We flew with DS when he was 10 months. We practiced wearing masks a lot before hand so he got used to it. We also timed it so he was fed just as we took off (I read somewhere that sucking helps them equalise the pressure) and then DS fell asleep. The rest of the time, we just have him snacks but I appreciate that's more difficult was a smaller baby. If it's feasible, you might want to book a seat for baby. They still have to be on your lap for take off and landing but in between you can stretch them out or let them play in the seat.

Could you try wearing your mask at home for 5 mins on and off regularly each day whilst you play with him so he gets used to that aspect of you wearing it with him?

My 4 month old loves matchstick monkey to distract him and chew if you have one or can amazon one. Add a dummy chain to it so it can’t be dropped.

In laws flew to see us and out baby for the first time last week and they said flight was busy, but all aisle seats left free if possible ie if you were travelling as a group, so you hopefully get a spare seat next to you.

For you, take snacks as many cafes in airport are closed

I hope it goes well for you
