First bra

OK - daughter is 10 and a half and needs a bra. I don't know where to start. Looked on line at M&S and they are either crop tops or bloody padded! Any recommendations?

Have you measured her under and over bust for an idea of size?

First off measure her

The ones that are padded may actually just be moulded which isn't necessarily a bad thing, covers nipples if that might bother her.

Just googled how to measure at home so will do that once I can get her off bloody Roblox - thank you, didn't think of that. Think I was more shocked that M&S do padded bra's or a ten year old. I went to M&S for my first 35 years ago and they certainly were not then!!

Don't go by M&S measuring, they still advocate for the adding inches method.

Bought my 10 yo DD some from Sainsbury’s. They’re lovely. Proper fastening at the back, adjustable straps, cotton fabric which is slightly shaped. Cheap as chips too.

Oooh off to look at Sainsbury's now.....

They have similar ones as previously linked in Primark. Dd is beginning to develop, given that we can’t try anything on, I think I’d probably order about 4 sizes online and send the ones that don’t suit back.

Unlikely to be an A cup if she has any breast tissue. An A cup means only 1 inch difference between under and over bust measurements.

1. Measure under - measurement = back size
2. Measure around fullest part of bust - difference between under and over gives cup size e.g. 1 inch = A , 2 inches = B, 3 inches = C etc

DD has definite breast tissue but the A is absolutely fine for her.

Bralets are good options too kind of a hybrid between bras and crop tops.

Tried bralets before and I think she is slightly too big for them now.

You can get them for larger busts too, the size 8 DD+ from m & s has fitted me from 30 DD to 30F (pregnancy and now breastfeeding)! Marks even does a G+ range!

Remember that the 'padding' in these is more designed to create a flat or slightly moulded outline so no nipple can be seen through.

The adding inches method is COMPLTELY outdated and wrong!
