Hi Ladies,
Right I am not planning on stepping on anyones toes but I've just joined as a lollipop advisor, and have set up an online shop. I'll be selling natural baby toiletries and organic baby clothing once i get my supplies aswell.
I know some of you ladies have them, (i've bought from there and will continue to do so) but my question is,
How do you let people know about it, and get some sales, seems I'm constantly paying money out but seen no return yet,
Where do you advertise your shop for not very much?

Think that's it for now,
thanks in advance. x

mumsnet classifieds - local press

goingfor3 · 08/10/2007 09:37

Notices in gp's surgery and baby clinics. Speak to your local health visitor so she can put interested people in touch with you.

I don't have an online shop, but I am an agent selling handmade children's clothes.

I printed up some little A5 leaflets on the computer and left them everywhere - all the local nurseries/primary schools/toddler groups etc etc.

I also take my stock to gala days, shows , crat fairs etc.

Sometimes people want 10% of your takings, other times it's a set pitch fee.

I can see the nappies might not work brilliantly at fairs etc, but it's as much about getting your name known as anything - future custom. Your baby toiletries/clothing however would go down well at local Christmas fairs or toddler groups.

Our local community newspaper just did a mini feature on my business and I did a fundraising fashion show for the local school last month.

This is al on the ground stuff and not online obviously - sorry

I have just emailed all my local NCT groups to ask about advertising in their publications and some have invited me along to do demos. Also send info to your local council, even if they don't offer an incentive to buy cloths ask them to give out your details if anyone local contacts them about real nappies

Flamesparrow · 08/10/2007 16:21

curly - your site isn't loading

Flamesparrow · 08/10/2007 16:22

tis now

curlywurlycremeegg · 08/10/2007 16:28

Flame I have finally got round to sorting out my google adwords, how have you found it? Do you think you are getting any more custom? I just though as I had a credit from my web host and I could stop it at any time it may be worth a go

Flamesparrow · 08/10/2007 16:33

I'm not sure tbh - lemme just check my ad thingy

Flamesparrow · 08/10/2007 16:38

Hmmm... since June - 3 people have selected that they found me through a search engine, and one through adwords

Clearly worth the money then? I do get lots of hits from it though - although that could just be rival sellers clickin me link for the spite of it!

curlywurlycremeegg · 08/10/2007 16:58

yes that was what I was worried about! Nappy sellers aren't that nasty are they

Flamesparrow · 08/10/2007 17:10

Dunno

curlywurlycremeegg · 08/10/2007 17:11

Oh don't say that Flame, am getting paraniod now

liahgen · 08/10/2007 18:01

I'm not. Haven't finished my shop, and I don't know how to make it look nice either.

Oh yeah, how do you get the facility to let people pay by debit card? Is the only way to pay extra?

If anyone wants to have a look it,s

LOL at "Botty Totty"

I use paypal to take cedit/debit cards at the moment though have just applied for a merchant services account so will be able to take card paayments over the phone.

liahgen · 08/10/2007 18:17

dont the customers have to have a paypal account though? not everyone has one do they?

does a merchant account scost?
do you get sales through the shop?

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 08/10/2007 18:29

Paypal and nochex will take payments without an account.

Can I be nosey and ask how much the merchant services thing costs?

Flamesparrow · 08/10/2007 18:31

I thought lollipop were only allowed to sell lollipop stuff?

curlywurlycremeegg · 08/10/2007 18:37

the merchant account does cost, I am currently trying to work out which one is the best for me but it is about £20-£25 a month then a small fee for each transaction, less than paypal, the monthly charge includes a normal chi and pin machine but I am considering paying more fore a wireless one for when I do the shows.

Just changed my buisness bank account to Alliance and Leicester as their buisness banking is free (first £4000 every month) so am saving money with that at the moment

liahgen · 08/10/2007 18:38

I am only selling lollipop nappies that we stock. Other stuff is not theirs obviously.

Have just been allowed to stock organic baby gift sets from Makes a change .co.uk so am looking forward to putting those in, they're lovely.

liahgen · 08/10/2007 18:39

anyway, which of you ladies ells minki's and how much are they? for my little chubster?

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 08/10/2007 18:48

That was what I meant, I thought lollipop was an exclusive agent or nothing kind of deal

Flamesparrow · 08/10/2007 18:50

I sell minki pockets and huggles, no yoyos yet though

nappyzone · 08/10/2007 19:14

im not sure the ad words thing working either for me - i get hits but i dont htink i get results from it enugh to justify £30 a month (im on a trial month this month too) but thik like flame other sellers are just weighing me up but maybe im just cynical - im sure im one of cheapest bg sellers so why they all clicking and not buying? tis a mystery
