How much food - weaning

Hi, I have a 6 month old baby who is starting to wean. He has 4 x 7oz bottles a day at the moment and is gaining weight and slowly going up centiles. He is big for his age (in 9-12 clothes) despite never having more than 900ml/30oz of formula a day! I don’t want to make him bigger by over feeding.

How do I know how much to feed him for ‘meals’? Will he stop, like he does if he doesn’t want a full bottle? Should I reduce his bottle oz?

Obviously not going to wean him on chips and chocolate ... starting with veg and fruit.

He also has CMPA and reflux if that makes any difference 🤷‍♀️

(Apologise, FTM with lockdown baby and very little outside support)

Is he following his centile line in is red book?

Are you doing blw or purées? The answer is different for both.

He really won't eat much for the first few weeks, it's more just moving food around his mouth to practice textures, chewing and swallowing.

Give him something at breakfast, lunch and dinner then bottles after.

In terms of quantity to prepare, DD would be given half a round of bread and butter chopped into fingers, she would chew on each and spit them out. A third of a banana would get mushed and minute amounts actually swallowed, a tablespoon or two of puréed veg

He’s migrating towards the 95th from the 75th so he’s still in the segment, but the top end.

Mix of blw and purée as will work for us

He’s able to swallow now and will eat a whole cube of veg (60ml) and would probably eat more. He shows he wants it by opening mouth and doing a kicking thing with his tongue, the same way he asks for a bottle.

He’s only having dinner at the moment as was advised to just give one meal initially

I've always had a big boy, he's been 91st centile since birth. I did traditional weaning, pureees with finger foods offered. The Ella's kitchen book suggested that 'a few spoons' of puree would be more than enough but he always ate way more than that.

I just fed him till he showed signs he was full (ie not opening his mouth wide and lunging at the spoon).
