Breastfeeding - never have leaking / let down

Everyone talks about Breast engorgement, leaking, breasts feeling full/empty and let down. I don’t have any of these, have never had and have been EBF for 5 weeks. My baby is quite small, does this mean I don’t have enough milk? Or do some people just not get this at all?

No some people just don’t get it. I certainly did a bit in the early weeks, but stopped wearing breast pads altogether by 8 weeks or so.

I was the same. I used breast pads on and off for a few weeks but from a few weeks after ds birth I just carried them in my bag as a precaution. The only time my breasts were engorged was after his 8 week injections as he refused to feed. I also found that I couldnt pump so had to feed him myself. I carried on feeding until 15 months and he carried on growing fine. You only need to worry about your baby!s size if he/she drops down the percentile chart suddenly. In this case you should speak to your HV. I would otherwise assume that you just have a small baby.

I never had this apart from when I left my baby once for about 6/7 hours. I think some people just don’t!

Not a problem for me either. I thought it was a bonus as less faff!

Ps. Still feeding a thriving child at 17months

I wore breast pads for maybe the first month. I never leak, no idea about my let down and successfully breastfed for 18 months. My boy was a chubby little chunk too.

EasyPeasyHappyCheesy · 05/09/2020 14:47

I breastfeed for 2.5 years and only had a leak once. Never wore a breastpad as didn't need them. Didn't really get engorged either apart from my first day back at work after maternity leave.

Mumdiva99 · 05/09/2020 14:50

Never had either. Successfully fed 3 kids. Had to give away boxes of breast pads....

I'm on baby number 2 and have never leaked. She's growing fast though, so I'm not worried about supply. DD1 always gained weight steadily too, so I think it's just normal for some women not to leak.

AyeCorona1 · 05/09/2020 14:54

Very jealous of all you non-leaker, I spent 12 months constantly mopping up my own milk and remember frequently waking up in a puddle when babies began to sleep more than 3 hours at night!

Lockdownseperation · 05/09/2020 15:05

Yes I did regularly and got blockages and lumps.

If your baby has enough wet and dirty nappies and is following their centile line then you are producing enough milk.

Hi,

I am currently breastfeeding my 2nd DS (1st was EBF for 9 months). Have never leaked, felt let down or had engorged breasts right from the start for either baby. Have lots of unused breast pads! Also have never been able to express much milk. They have both fed often and not slept for long stretches so maybe no time to produce excess milk?

I have doubted my supply of milk at times but they seem satisfied after each feed and gained weight well with lots of wet nappies.

I recommend following @milkmakingmama if you are on Instagram - loads of informative and reassuring posts on breastfeeding .

My DD is EBF and almost 1 year old. I’ve never used a breast pad, don’t leak etc No engorgement.

It’s nothing to be worried about and is a blessing!

I can’t express though so baby has never had anything but boob for milk throughout.
