Baby gassy after vitamin drops

Hi all, my baby is 4 months old and we started giving him vitamin drops a month ago. But he gets very gassy (struggles to pass the wind) and fussy.

Couple of weeks before he gets very cranky and fussy, and not wanting to stay on the playmat. we thought its acid reflux and we gave him gaviscon as per gps advice. That makes his poop hard so we stopped giving that.

To find out whats causing the trouble, i stopped taking diary and his vitamins for couple of weeks and we noticed he seems to be fine. Stayed on the mat for longer time and played.

I started dairy again last week and he is ok with that. No fussiness. Yesterday and today i gave him vitamins and he is fussy. It seems like he is having some kind of stomach pain. When i distract him he smiles for a second and immediately cries again.

Anyone having similar experience?

Is he bf or ff? Which vitamins are you giving?

Eshaar · 03/09/2020 22:36

He is on combination feed. 80% expressed breast milk and 20% formula.

Yes. My baby has Abidec and it makes her very windy / gives her stomach problems. We’re persevering and hoping her stomach matures quickly!

he does not need vitamins he gets everything from you and his other milk, one ingredient probably does not agree with him

Stop giving them vitamin drops. There is no need

Fruitshootloop · 04/09/2020 04:15

My baby was prescribed Abidec by the neonatal unit, and official NHS advice is now that all breastfed babies should be given additional vitamins.

Why are you giving vitamin drops to a 4mo? No need.

LittleBearPad · 04/09/2020 09:09

Scrap the vitamins.

Vitamin d is recommended now for all children in the uk under 5. Those exclusively on formula don’t need to as it’s add to the formula, but breastfed babies should.

Ask your health visitor or the pharmacy if they have a different brand they recommend instead. Also you are just giving one drop right, too much at once can cause gassiness

Wellkid do have vitamin drops which are vitamin D only. Maybe try them.
