Nutramigen 1 and projectile vomiting

Hi,

So my little boy is nearly 10 weeks old and started on Nutramigen 1 nearly 3 weeks ago and he's so much better since starting on it. He poos every day now and doesn't grunt or strain like he did all through the day and night. However, for the past week (I'm not sure if it started after his first injections) but he's started vomiting after his feeds when we go to burp him. Sometimes it will only be a little bit and sometimes it will be a lot. He's just vomited a lot after his feed and is now sounds asleep but I don't know what to do. He's also started to fight the bottle when he's half way through a feed - not all of the time though. All of these issues seen to have started in the past week. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

It still contains CMP it just broken down. You need to go back to the gp and ask for a dairy free milk. Join the CMPA Facebook group.

Also, it is very much thinner than regular milk. Try a thickner in it like cow and Gate instant carobel for a few feeds and see how you go. My wee one is on the totay broken down formula, pur amino and still is sick even on omeprazole if we don't put in carobel. He projectile vomited on the nutramigen 1 hence the pur amino, but looking back I think it could be because of the thinness of it, given he still does it in on this. Good luck!

@user1471465987 I've tried him on Carobel before but it made him constipated, he had a very sensitive gut. What I don't understand is he has been perfectly fine on this formula for 2 weeks so the consistency can't be the issue. It's only the past week where he's started vomiting and fighting feeds Sad

Poor soul. We had the same struggling to poo problem. We are on laxido to combat the carobel.

Could the vomming be because he is fighting so much? Also think our boy had vomit issues because on a full tummy he was straining and squirming so much. See if you can get on pur amino.. Smells better too..!

Same thing happened here - he did great on it for 2 weeks and then it was back to square one. We changed to Nutramigen and Puramino and all was well. He's 18 months now and still on it.

I did have to use carobel until he was maybe 12 months old, after that he didn't need it. It also gave him awful constipation so we increased the water in his bottles to combat this (you'll have to ask your paedetrician about this - I think we were told an extra ounce per month per day, so at 2 months of age we added an extra ounce of water to 2 of his bottles each day). But ask your doctor to be sure.

What also worked wonders was adding less carobel than recommended but I'm letting it thicken for much longer in the fridge. So for a 6oz bottle I would add 1.5 scoops and let thicken for a few hours in the fridge. The constipation eased pretty quickly after making these changes.

Good luck.

Hi all, thanks for your advice, I've spoken with the GP who thinks we may be overfeeding him, which I feel terrible about because I think we have been guilty of it. So we're going to try him with less and see how he gets on as a first try and go from there. If only babies came with a manual Sad
