How to keep the food in the mouth!

Any tips - my 13month old is fully weaned and wants to feed himself all the time but can’t and smacks out of my hand!
If I feed him he takes the food then spits it out - is this normal?

Just leave him to it. It’s more about experimentation at this age than anything else. Some kids just like to do it themselves! It’ll click soon when as motor skills develop
