16 months and only 7kg

hello,

As the title says, my little one is 16 months and only 7kg. The hospital and health visitor don't seem that worried as she doing ok other than that, albeit with a few issues we are working on and various intolerances.

My query isn't so much about how to increase her weight but more interest if anyone else has had a very small child and did they catch up? And were they hindered long term in any way?

Thanks,

Yes my DS2 was on the 0.4th centile from his early months to puberty. He was always the smallest in his class. He is now late teens, average height, but slim.

@BrokenLink thank you! How old was he when he started to catch up?

My DB was a small baby and small for his age for a long time. He was always exactly 6 inches shorter than me (21 months younger) until we were teens. I suppose he started to catch up without me noticing but I went to uni when he was 17 and when I came back at Xmas he was taller than me (I'm 5'6)

Probably not what you wanted to hear timing wise but he's 6 foot now (a good 2 inches taller than our DDad).

I can't remember exactly how old he was when he caught up, but probably 14ish

Hi OP, what percentile does that put her on? Is her height similar?

My dd was way way below the 0.4th centile but did track her own line. Has your dd fallen off her centile?

My dd is or was extremely small but was also v prem and born less than 1kg. She's on growth hormone now and has caught up to the 9th percentile. She has had no issues at all apart from this and I also know friends whose children were not actually that different in size at the same age. I think all her extra intervention due to her early birth led to all the extra support.
