10 hours sleep a night-common?

My little boy is very much a 10 hour a night sleeper rather than the text book 11/12 hour a night (which I'm not expecting :)) usually around 18:30pm till 04:30am or 19:00pm till 05:00ish was just wondering if this is common with other mummy and daddy's babies? Just intrigued really, p.s he's coming up to 7 months old xx

My son is 3. Thought he'd go to 12 hours once he dropped his nap. No such luck. It's really annoying. 10 hours is pretty standard for us.

At 7 months that’s pretty good - better than many if he goes all the way through without waking! I assume he naps too? The important consideration Is total amount of sleep in 24 hours - that’s a better guide.

I would get the text book and chuck it out the window and never look back!

Not common but not unheard of. Also very lucky.

@greytminds yes he has about 12.5 hours sleep in 24 hours usually has a couple of waking has a short winge/cry then goes back to sleep

Very lucky to be up at 4.30am

My niece was an early riser too and her parents used to take it turns to get up with her between 4 and 5am. They used to let her play with the noisiest toys when they visited us

Mine both went 12 hours at that age, usually 7pm - 7am

😭 my 5 month old still wakes at 11pm, then 3am, then will wake at 5am and loudly talk/shout to himself despite much shushing and resettling!

@Fairenuff oh the noisy toys at that time are not nice hehe!! yes the 4/5am alarm isnt always welcomed 😂😂we've started taking it in turns aswell makes a lot more sense than us both getting up which we were doing. Try to aim to be asleep for 9pm to make it more bareable :D xx

My son had 12 hours from 8 weeks then 10 till he was about 8yo or so

@Letsallscreamatthesistene oh it's horrible isn't it! we were in that position up until around 5 nights ago until we stopped his night feeds he would wake up and mess around with a bottle and not really take any (he drinks well in the day and is doing really well with solids) so we decided one night to not feed and see what he did and he goes back to sleep after a little bit of crying or wingeing which I think is better for him as is a lot less disruptive to his sleep than getting him up out of bed, other people may not agree this is the right thing to do but works well for us all I think and last night he slept through from 18:30 till 04:15 and when we got up he was happy to sit and play and I gave him his bottle about 4:45 and he wasn't crying for it so I've ruled out hunger think we're just accepting early rising, in a bit of a cycle of early bed early wake up as he's so tired by the time it gets to 6/6:30pm xx

It is horrible! My sons also an early riser, but ive just accepted a 6.30pm bedtime as hes so tired by this point and an early wake up.

I also plan to night wean once solids are properly established in a few months time.

DS2 has always needed less sleep than the books say he 'should' need. It's just how he is, he's not overtired and I just put him to bed later than I would have put DS1 to bed at the same age, to avoid being up at 5am! They're still the same now they are older.

@Letsallscreamatthesistene our boys sound very similar looking at some of your other posts :D on the plus side it is nice to have a couple of hours with the other half of an evening :D xx

Eldest dd at 7 months would have had 10-11 hours sleep and about 2/3 hours of a nap

Younger dd at that age was sleeping about the same overnight ( but multiple wake ups even with co - sleeping )
She would have had 3 hours of nap during the day made up of 30 min slots

Yes, mine didn't sleep 12 hours until he started nursery at 11 months and was knackered. He usually slept 9-7 - I couldn't face enforcing that early bedtime and waking up so early. He napped well in the day, his overall sleep time was whatever was recommended for his age, but at night no more than 10 hours usually.

@GiveMeAllTheGin8 (love the name :D) oh gosh we used to have x4 30 minute naps allllll the time but seems to be getting a lot better now he generally has about 2hrs 30mins over 3 naps then around 9.5/10 hours at night
@whatswithtodaytoday ooo my little one starts nursery in November when he's 9 months old so will see what happens hehe xx

My 9 year old has never slept the recommended amount. Under 24 months he slept a very broken 9ish hours (often waking every 45 minutes- severe reflux).

After that the most he has ever slept is 10 hours a night (first slept through the night aged 7). When ill, he sleeps even less

Unfortunately some DC just don't sleep a lot.

When people are saying 10 hours is that in a row?

My 19 month old does 10 hours at night but on average 3-5 wake ups still and sometimes is awake for 2 hours out of that 10. He also usually starts his day about 5am🤣

@OverTheRainbow88 Yes, we're lucky with sleep - he's slept through from about three months unless ill or teething. I don't know how you cope with so many wake ups!

@Dexy2020 We used to get the short naps too, barely enough time to get out of their room and clear your thoughts! 38 minutes, every time. Thankfully that started to lengthen at around 12 months - we now get just a two hour afternoon nap.

My 2yo does 10 hours overnight, then has a nap during the day which lasts around 1h/1h15. I was hoping her nap reducing in length would help her sleep later in the mornings, but no! We get the very occasional day when she doesn't nap, and she still wakes early!
