What to wear after 2/ after popper vest

My little boy will be 2 in a couple of months so shopping for the next size clothes to be prepared.
I’ve noticed vests with poppers only go up to 24 months so presuming I then put him in normal open bottom vests.
What I’m wondering though is do I get him some little briefs to wear aswell that I’ve seen or just have his nappy on the bottom half?
Haven’t started potty training yet

If he’s not potty trained he definitely doesn’t need pants! Just put a normal vest on him if you think he needs it - mine only wears them occasionally in the winter months.

Primark do pepper vests up to aged 3 I think .
When hes out of nappies you can switch to normal vests and pants .
I started potty training when ds was 2 but he was only reliably dry day and night 1 week before his 3rd birthday

Does he even need vests?

All three of my children have never worn vests past the age of two.

I just put them in a t shirt and jumper. If it is very cold they get a long sleeved thermal t shirt and jumper.

Nursery is always hot inside, and they put a coat on to go outside.

But if yours needs a vest then normal ones will do! No need for pants until they are potty trained.

Sainsbury's do vests in 2-3 years, my DS wore them.

Marks are all up to age 3

Thanks for your replies
Will have a look then in primark/Sainsbury’s or m&s. Think he needs them as he likes to take his nappy off otherwise.
He doesn’t seem ready for potty training just yet but he’s learning so fast now, fingers crossed it won’t be long

I think you will struggle to get pants that fit over a nappy. Kids pants are tiny.

I'd look into the companies who do larger peppered vests if he takes his nappy off - or nappy covers for reusable nappies.

You can wear his pants over his nappy. We did this to get ours used to wearing them.

That’s such a weird and unnecessary thing to do...it’s not as if they can feel them through the nappy so surely just creating extra faff for you? I have known hundreds of toddlers and none of them did this, all got used to pants just fine!
FelicityPike · 24/08/2020 09:31

@HarrietM87 and I’ve never known a child who hasn’t done this.

HarrietM87 · 24/08/2020 13:00

@FelicityPike I’m genuinely interested - what’s the rationale? And how long in advance do you start doing it?

I have never heard of this (other than where a kid likes to take their nappy off) and it seems mad to me. It’s not recommended by any of the (many) potty training methods I’ve read either.

Most of the supermarkets do popper vests in 2-3, you just sometimes have to hunt at the back of the rails.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 24/08/2020 14:18

We dropped popper vest by 12 months as I was fed up of poppers. He just wore tops and jumpers and was perfectly warm. We’ve never bothered with vests since, but if you want to, I’d imagine just basic pull on kids vests will be sufficient. Nappies are more than enough to keep bottoms warm!

Lockdownseperation · 25/08/2020 12:33

I’ve never heard of a child wearing pants over a nappy. At the moment it’s ‘fashionable’ for newly potty trained children to not wear underwear under their clothes for the first six weeks after potty training so they don’t forget they are not wearing a nappy.

My oldest is 4 but very tall so she must have been out of popper vests before 2. By her 2nd birthday she was in pull ups for ease and then a few weeks later she started to use the potty by herself so we went straight into potty training. If he is 2 then I imagine you will be starting potty training soon so you need to consider easy clothes for potty training.
