How often should a baby be smiling at 6 weeks? My son was born at 37 weeks and I'm just wondering how much people's babies where smiling at this point 😊

I can't remember exactly but I know it was a lot later than six weeks. DS was particularly smiley but both of my girls were grumpy little madams

I literally have no idea. I know DS smiled sporadically quite early on but I could’ve tell you how often he was smiling after that. It’s one of those things that seems really important at the time but in the grand scheme of things definitely isn’t.

Only a few smiles at 6 weeks with a lot of effort from me to encourage them. Lots of smiles 7 weeks onwards and smiling at extended family since about 9 weeks old. Now almost getting some sort of laugh/giggle out of him at 12 weeks but he's just entered a big growth spurt and is frowning at everyone apart from me and generally being very cranky.

Roughly 8 weeks but only now much more since 12+w :)

DS1 was grumpy. Think it was nearer 10 weeks, and not regularly until 13 weeks.

DS2, on the other hand, smiled 10 mins after birth. Obviously not his mouth, but his eyes, cheeks, etc. Midwife said it was rare, but was definitely a smile and she'd seen it happen before.

Thank you everybody! This is really reassuring to know, I was obviously expecting it too early 😊 I get the odd smile from him but not a lot!

I remember friends asking me at 6/7 weeks whether he has smiling yet (In a nice way - not pushy!) and being a bit worried.... He then started smiling-ish at 8 weeks and I’d get really excited and try and get a picture, but were always then followed by a massive poo 🙄
Started actually smiling I think by 9/10.

@DonaldTrumpsChopper my second smiled at 10 days old it wasn't wind. He's smiled pretty much every day since. Oldest was definitely around the 6-8 week mark. He's still fairly grumpy at 17.
