Breastfeeding making me feel unwell

Random one. I keep getting tummy upset at the moment (nausea, constipation, general tummy ache). I usually don’t suffer with this at all. The only thing I can think of is that as I am breastfeeding a very hungry 11 week old - this is making me dehydrated or just unwell? Has anyone else had this?

Is it just a simple case of drink more water and I won’t feel unwell? Or can breast feeding in general make the mother ill? Might be totally random but my baby isn’t quite 100% at the moment, bit lethargic, constipated and doesn’t seem himself. Has him feeling unwell been caused by me? Or just totally not connected that we are both suffering with tummy aches?

You've probably both got the same bug.

Is he having plenty of wet nappies at least?

He is having wet nappies but had 2 days of weird poop (green/blackish and a lot of it)

If we both have a tummy bug who got it first? How can I stop us getting them and passing them between each other. I am always washing my hands after nappies and keeping his clothes and everything very clean. Don’t know what else to do?

Well bugs just happen. There's no sure fire way to stop them always.

Give it a few days and then see what's what. Let whatever it is run its course and if things are no better then reassess.

Do you swap breasts half way through a feed? If you do, try and keep him on the first one longer just in case he's getting mostly foremilk.

It does sound as if you both have picked something up though. Just keep an eye on it and see hour GP if it carries on longer than they do usually. Even if it's just for reassurance.
