What to do with a baby in the rain

Dumb question but I have a 11 week old. Other than time on playmat, in his chair and feeding. What else should I do with him?! Obviously Covid means I’m not taking him to shops etc unnecessarily. What is there to entertain him (and me?!)

Advice appreciated

Put on wet weather gear and put them in the pram and go for a walk (probably not if blowing a gale or thunder storm)

Wrap baby up and go out anyway.

We live (well most of us do) in Britain. If you didn't go out in the rain, you'd be at home forever

Sing songs and read books.

How old is your baby OP?

I found going into different rooms helped if we felt bored at home. Bubbles in the bathroom, banging pots in the kitchen, reading books on my bed snuggled up.

Just being with you, heating your voice is all your baby needs at their age. Maybe a bath together? Skin to skin is still beneficial. Or YouTube baby massage?

Some mirror play?

But honestly I just put a waterproof on, make sure the baby was wrapped up and waterproofed and go out anyway. Honestly, I despise just sitting inside with an agitated bored baby. Id rather be a bit damp!

Do 11 week old babies need entertainment?

Seriously, if I was bored I'd wrap us both up and go for a walk.

3 1/2 month old here. I find putting him in sling easiest if it’s raining and I need to go out as then I can just use an umbrella like usual over both of us.

It was dry today, but indoors he seemed to like some music on and me dancing with him and he had a bath with me and bath toys for the first time.

Take him out anyway.
He will enjoy the smell of the rain, the sound of rain hitting the pram hood, the pattern made in the rain cover etc

Pop him in the carrier and just do whatever you want! I did a lot of online baby wearing workouts / dance classes.

Thanks all! We went out in the rain in his sling and I just put a hat on him and used an umbrella. He didn’t seem to mind

I know that so much is going on in their brains at the moment so just want to find things to engage him.

Remember that he has the attention span of a gnat and absolutely everything is new and interesting to him. Watching you do the washing up is mind blowing to him!

When my babies were little I'd take them out to look at rain, and watch trees blowing about, or go up to the local church to hear the bells ringing, stuff like that.
I'd chat a lot to them too. I also used to put music on and dance about while holding them.

Have you every set your baby down in a bouncy chair just to watch the washing machine? Mine loved that too. Not that the concentrate on anything for long, but 5 mins peace is always good.
Really at that age (all ages really) they love to interact with you, singing to them , nursery rhymes etc
Copying their facial expressions and you realise after a while that they will copy yours too. Perfect for developing their speech and understanding. Warning though: once they start talking they never stop 😂
I'm glad you and he enjoyed the walk. Another year or so and he can put wellies on and go jumping in puddles!

Do you have any friends that you could meet for a coffee once a week or something? Or even go for a solo coffee. DS loved cafes at that age. And I liked cake.

It's a tricky stage, they're more awake so you feel like you should be doing more, but they're generally just happy lying there watching the world go by.

Do some tummy time, baby massage is a also a good way to kill half an hour. Puppet shows (hide some cuddly toys behind a chair and then pop them up and down) and singing.

But they're pretty dull till about 6 months old.

Everything is engaging at 11 weeks. Dd used to love an empty crisp packet to scrumple. Which was good because I ate millions whilst breastfeeding.

Don’t worry too much about doing ‘stuff’ with him every second he’s awake. Sticking him in a bouncer to watch you wash up is just as engaging as anything else.

At 11 weeks I just went about my daily life and they came too, whatever/wherever that may be!

at 11 weeks, i enjoyed netflix while babies were in the bouncer!

at 4ish months, they rolled so peace was shattered.

honestly, enjoy it - at that age just gofor walks and crack on with your day!
