Blippi!!!!

My 17 month old has recently discovered blippi and now he is literally obsessed with it to the point if it's not even on in the background he comes over and passes me the remote and moans till I put it on.

He won't sit there all day and watch it, he goes between watching it then playing then back to watch it. I do have it on all day in the background for him though. I just feel like a bad mum because you see all these articles about too much t.v for toddlers.

Throughout the whole day I'd say he watches about 2 hours of blippi a day.

Is it really that bad for a toddler to watch t.v?

2 hours of tv a day is nothing . Stop worrying . Everything in moderation . The colours and words etc will be stimulating for your little one

LovingLola · 17/08/2020 09:02

I’d turn it off.

Fuck Blippi and his fucking cap and fucking "excavaaaaaaatorrrrr" DS loves him, I do think his programmes are good for toddler but he is SO ANNOYING

Also his music friend is so odd! It's like he found a random on the street.

We watch quite a bit of Blippi, can you tell?

Nah, Blippi's alright. He's quite educational. DD went through this phase around the same age with the constant TV. I used to take her out a lot, then one day when she was coming up to 3 she just stopped. We never offered the TV and she stopped.

I don't see 2 hrs as a problem. You have jobs to do and need a coffee. Everyone needs down time, even a toddler.

Flynn999 · 17/08/2020 09:11

Ds loves it.... I hate it.

At least he does stuff like colours, shapes, counting, healthy eating etc. So you can class it as almost educational. I’m an excavaaaaaaaator!! Just limit it to So long per day. If he winges, ‘ No, we’re not watching tv, would you like to play with x or y’

Better than peppa pig. She’s an irritating fucker, she would be only ever improved if she was placed on a BBQ

I like Blippi. You can tell he's actually enjoying himself and it's not bad content at all. Compared to some of the dross on YouTube aimed at kids it's brilliant actually!

One tip I read about TV is to keep it for the late afternoon slump rather than getting into the habit of using it all the time. But I don't think a couple of hours is bad at all, especially at the moment with toddler groups etc all cancelled and nothing much to go out and do.

BertieBotts · 17/08/2020 09:17

Although I have two song complaints. I kept mishearing the horse song as "horses, galloping through the fuckin sky, I wish that I had one to ride" (it's countryside :o) and DH and I are prone to grabbing each other and pretending to scream "Oh God! There's so many SHAPES!" :)

BertieBotts · 17/08/2020 09:17

Apparently he started the channel for his nephew, aww. And his mum made his hat :o

We had the TV on in the background a lot during lockdown but my 2 year old just didn't play as well with the distraction. So now we turn off the TV before 10 every day, and then I'll put it back on at 4 so I can cook the tea. Took a couple of days to get into the habit but it's fine. I think passive screen time is worse than actually watching it properly.

2 hours is fine if they're watching it though. Just turn it off in between.

Ginger1982 · 17/08/2020 09:23

My 3 year old loves Blippi. We had a 'chill' afternoon yesterday and he watched it constantly. I think something educational like that is better than constant cartoons and I've learnt a few things from Blippi too!

I love the Shapes song and the Excavator song and the Tools song! 😆

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 17/08/2020 09:26

My 2 year old loves it . I can’t stand him.

I try and follow the WHO screen time guidelines, no screen time before 18 months and less than an hour a day for under 5s. I can't stand background TV which makes it a bit easier

Difuser16 · 17/08/2020 09:34

Thanks everyone! Oh don't even get me started on I'm an excavator 😫 I sing that song all day everyday 😂!

I hate blippi tbh, he drives me mad but I'll put up with it for my son 😂

Difuser16 · 17/08/2020 09:55

@GiveMeAllTheGin8 ah thank you, I'll take a trip there as well!

I seen they do some stuff on Argos, they do the blippi garbage truck and that's probably my sons favourite blippi video! They also do a sink and float toy and he's started to become more interested in those videos! I'll end up buying everything tbh 😂
