First dentist appt

Hi,

My 10 month old DS got his first tooth at 9 months, within 3 weeks he has two bottom teeth and four at the top!!

When should I make his first dentist appt?

To be honest I didn't even realise he was due a check up, I've had a million other things on my plate and my mum mentioned it last night and now I'm worried that he should've already had a check up

He has his teeth brushed twice every day (though most of the time I'm sure he just chews it haha)

I can't believe I'm at the stage of booking a dentist appt for him, feels like just last week he was in a Moses basket

Thanks for any help xxx

Take him along to your next check up so he gets used to the dental surroundings. They'll probably just have a quick look at the end of your next appointment tbh! Only takes a second!

I think my dentist suggested mine went from age 2 but to register DC with them ASAP just in case of emergency.

We didn't start until between 2-3. They really don't do anything except stare into their mouths for about 15 seconds. It's not a big deal and it's not scary, but unless there's an issue, I find it hard to justify taking a whole morning off from work for that.

I'm in Scotland and they advise registering from when they get their first teeth/around 6 months and to go along to every routine appointment to get them used to the dentist environment. I certainly wouldn't wait until age 2 or 3

Take them along when you go. That's what I've done with my two since they were about 6 months. Their dad and I get checked first then the kids. First few times they didn't open their mouths but gets them used to the surroundings

I've taken my 2 from 6mo. The dentist would look in their mouths and check their teeth, get them used to the routine. They've always just seen it as a routine thing to visit so it worked for us.

We've been going since DD was about 6 months - she's registered and I book a double appointment for us.

As soon as he had his first tooth he went and sat on my lap. He was about 11 months. He is now 5 and totally happy going to the dentist.
