Best board games for under 6 year olds

It's looking like our holiday could be a partial washout and I need some games for a 3 year old and near 6 year old that are easy and fun and can include adults.

The board games are mainly for the 6 year old as I appreciate the 3 year old might not get it but I know mumsnet will have some good recommendations !

Thank you

Orchard games are brilliant at that age, the three little pigs game was a firm favourite (blowing houses down!)

frustrationcentral · 12/08/2020 17:42

Another here saying Orchard Games!

SillyLoveSong · 12/08/2020 17:43

I second Orchard games. Our favourite is Shopping List.

Snakes and Ladders is an old standby; helps with counting.

FelicityPike · 12/08/2020 17:45

Orchard games!
Your three years old can play lots of them too.
You could also get junior monopoly and junior scrabble.
A deck of cards, your wee one could play snap.

fruitpastille · 12/08/2020 17:46

Orchard games are great for children but a bit boring for adults imo. My 6 year old likes uno and dobble.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 12/08/2020 17:48

Orchard games! The shipping trolley game was a firm favourite when mine were 3.

supercalifragilistic123 · 12/08/2020 17:48

We've got one called race to the treasure. Which is a cooperative game. Its short but we all enjoy it unlike the orchard games which are mind numbingly boring!

We also enjoy dobble, uno, frustration and good old fashioned snakes and ladders

angelopal · 12/08/2020 17:49

Another fan of the orchard ln toy games.

APurpleSquirrel · 12/08/2020 18:03

Orchard Games
Dobble
Hungry Hippos
Screwball Scramble
Break the Ice
Guess Who
Connect Four

tankflybos · 12/08/2020 18:12

If the 3 year old isn't playing then I'd say Dino Dump.

Shopping trolley game as others have said will be fine for all

brightbluegentian · 12/08/2020 18:15

Another vote for Orchard games. Dinosaur racing, pizza pizza and the cupcake game. Also snakes and ladders and also Ludo.

Gottalovesummer · 12/08/2020 18:15

I'm a childminder so play lots of games with this age group. I would also recommend orchard games, they are fab!

Also: Mousetrap, my first monopoly, ludo, snakes and ladders, hungry hippo. All can be played easily by the age groups you mention.

Perdigal · 13/08/2020 20:46

Thank you all -screwball is a hit !

Aldi had a load or orchard games knock offs in last week really cheap DD is 6 and she enjoys those and has done for a couple of years now

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 13/08/2020 20:51

Forgive me, Aldi have Orchard branded ones in not knock offs.

It's these ones Fairground Lotto Mini Travel Game for just £2.99. Check it out: www.aldi.co.uk/p/077051406034926

diamente · 13/08/2020 20:52

Junior monopoly is pretty easy and quick
Mine like old school charity shop finds like stay alive and frustration
Orchard games pizza one is quite fun

Widdendream77 · 13/08/2020 20:53

Orchard games- we love pigs in pants and robot run especially but a great board favourite for us is pirate pursuit with a little pirate ship that runs round the board if you land on its space!

Chocchoc2020 · 13/08/2020 20:59

Candyland - my 3 & 5 year olds can play it together without an adult!

Yellowbeansontoast · 13/08/2020 21:03

Dobble (for both ages) or Catan junior if you have a child who can focus for a while :)

LaTomatina · 13/08/2020 21:08

Not a board game, but my kids loved pelmanism type card games at that age. We had lots of different themed ones.

Dobble was a big favourite too.

And, slightly older now, they like Othello.

billandbeninsanfrancisco · 14/08/2020 07:05

Llamas in pajamas from Orchard we still play now!

latticechaos · 14/08/2020 07:06

Rhino Hero

latticechaos · 14/08/2020 07:07

Also Ticket to Ride Junior or Carcassonne Junior

BigRedBoat · 14/08/2020 07:27

My 5 year old can manage UNO, not sure if a 3 year old would get it but maybe with a bit of help? Maybe Jenga as well?
