Just that really. I'm in hospital with my 2 day old baby, wish to EBF but she's reluctant and falls asleep at the boob without making any effort to feed, so far I've been pumping and topping up with formula. Which pump should I get when I get home, thanks in advance wise people of mumsnet!!!! Ps have had excellent support from infant feeding team!

I exclusively pumped for 9 months after my little girl refused to breast feed. I started off trying cheaper models as I didn't think there would be much difference.
I then bought a medela swing and it was so much better.
If you are only going to be pumping for short term just get a cheap one as the good ones are quite expensive. But if you plan on doing it long term it's really worth the investment on a better one.

You can hire hospital grade pumps.

Thanks for the ideas! I'll look at medela swing, the one I'm currently using is medela so that's reassuring

I also had the medela swing. It managed to get some milk from my reluctant boobs so id rate it.

I got on well with the spectra

Just a FYI, you mate not need a pump. My milk didn’t come in until day 3-4. He just had the small amount of collestrum that came out, but that was all. Didn’t need topping up etc.
It’s normal, they are born with reserves for the first few days to account for this , and I think at 2 days old there stomach is smaller than a cherry so they are full with very little.

At 3 1/2 months he is still breastfed. Never pumped as it’s a lot of hassle and often nothing out

Thanks again, I appreciate her stomach is small but right now on advice of the healthcare professionals I'm happy to top up as she needs the extra fluids in this heat and she's doing well xxx but I will hopefully make enough to transition to EBF soon

Spectra S1 here, had low milk supply and pumped after feeds for 7 weeks. It worked well and it helped. Also recommend getting a pumping bra!

I have a tommee tippe one. It's cheaper than many of the others but it works well for me.
