Baby’s belly button still a bit moist/crusty?

My baby son is just over 7 weeks and his belly button seems to be taking ages to heal. Last night it seemed really moist and a little bloody, this morning crusty again. I’m scared to mess with it! GP (over phone) wasn’t concerned but tbh she has previously been dismissive about other things so I don’t rate her much. Any midwives/medics here? I’d love a 2nd opinion!

I had this with my little girl around 12 weeks and the doctor prescribed some antibiotic cream - tbh it had pretty much cleared up by the time I got the cream and the doctor said often it clears up naturally - keep the nappy off it as you have done and keep it clean was the advice they gave me.

Thanks @struggleisreal! I freaked out a little when it looked bad last night but that sounds like sensible advice. I’m sure my elder one’s belly button was basically healed after a couple of weeks but I might be misremembering that! We’ll see the doc for his vaccinations anyway next week and I’ll get them to look properly then.

My daughter's belly button was quite weepy at about 2 weeks and the HV was a bit concerned and sent me to the GP who prescribed antibiotic cream. This seemed to improve it for a bit but it went back to weeping again. It was never smelly or infected but we would frequently end up with liquid over her vests 🤢 Brought it up at the 6 week check and the GP diagnosed an umbilical granuloma. He cauterised it with silver nitrate and we've never had a problem with it since. Is there another GP you could see for a second opinion?

Ds had a swab on his taken then antibiotics prescribed but it was the antibiotic cream that cleared it up. Couldn’t get the oral antibiotics down him
