Recommendation for travelling

Hi all,

Not sure if I've put this in the right place so apologies if not!

We are going away at the end of August and have been advised that the travel cots where we are staying are really uncomfortable for babies as there isn't much in terms of mattress (I know this is the case for most travel cots but it seems these really are the worst!)

I just wondered if anyone could recommend any of the following and a general thought of what the best option would be:

  • what to use to pad out the travel cot without making it too hot for baby
  • a portable travel mattress that folds up - I can't seem to find anything online, searches just bring up normal mattresses which are quite big to take around!
  • a travel cot we could own and take instead that has a decent mattress built in

I would really appreciate any help, I'm dreading the thought of getting there and baby not sleeping for a week because they are too uncomfortable 🙈 x

I’d recommend getting your own decent travel cot. They’re so useful. I can’t tell you the number of times it doubled up as a playpen, especially when we go to friends/relatives who have houses which aren’t baby proof! Also handy at nap times if you’ve got two small children who ordinarily have to share a room, or even if you just want your LO to take a nap downstairs because it’s cooler/quieter/saves you trudging upstairs etc...

Thank you so much for replying @Ricekrispie22 is there any travel cot you would recommend?

I had a little look online this morning and a lot of the reviews say they've had to buy a separate mattress and all the recommended mattresses have been ones you can fold or roll so it kind of defeats the purpose of being travel friendly!? X

Yes, they’re only comfy with a separate Mattress, not the really crap ones that come with the core.

Thank you so much @Ricekrispie22 I'll check that one out! X

I thought that might be the case @Rainallnight but was hoping there might be one that's better than others 🙈
I don't know why there isn't an in between solution as I can see taking a big mattress that doesn't roll up or anything being a bit of a pain! As if there's not enough to pack with a little one 🤣 X
