Teething - I'm pathetic and need a hand hold

DS is late to the teeth game. He's 8 months and hasn't got one yet. He's teething just now and it's horrible.
He's been ok during the day but this evening when he got tired it was awful. He's just cried for the best part of an hour. I gave him teething powders and when they didn't help much I gave him calpol. He cried until I assume the calpol kicked in.
He's normally such a happy baby, he has a smile for anyone but he's just not himself. I can see where his wee tooth will be and it looks like it's nearly through so hopefully this won't go on too much longer because it's breaking my heart!

I totally feel your pain my little one is 6 months and he's cutting his 2nd tooth and he has winged and cried all day, I find that Nurofen works a bit better than calpol and anbesol liquid not the gel and ashton and parsons teething powder work well together, he also loves to chew on a cold peeled carrot from the fridge but I hold onto it so he doesn't choke on it bless him, massive hand hold from me ❤️ xx

If he’s not himself it is always worth getting him checked over for pain elsewhere, unrelated to teething.

Thank you @Dexy2020 calpol seems to have done the trick, he's having a good cuddle and a nap. I'll try and pick up some nurofen tomorrow. Ashton and parsons have been amazing until now I think he's just getting close to it coming through.

@GingerAndTheBiscuits sorry when I say he's not himself I mean in that he's crying when he rarely cries. He's been eating fine, playing, happy etc all day. It was just that spell there when his teeth were bothering him. I'm not concerned that there's anything other than his teeth bothering him.

Try putting a clean damp flannel in the freezer for a bit until it's good and cold and letting him chew on that, we also gave DD frozen peas and sweetcorn to chomp when she was a bit older, might not be ready for that yet though.

Utterly feel your pain, ds2 is a nightmare when teething, poor sod. Ibuprofen is much more effective than paracetamol. He also like frozen veg sticks and a frozen damp flannel to chew on in the day.

Usually once they erupt the pain becomes much more manageable for them or just seems to dissipate.

Anebsol (sp?) is also amazing stuff. I used it myself when I had tooth pain and had to wait to see a dentist. Tastes foul but utterly numbs everything.

The frozen flannel is an excellent idea! I put his yummirings in the freezer and he loved it but they're metal and playing with them heats them up quite quickly.

It’s just horrible isn’t it? And the hot weather seems to be making everything worse. Sorry you’re having a tough time.

I’m pretty sure my DS screaming while teething has perforated my ear drum - ringing in my ear, pain and slight deafness. So my tip would be - don’t hold him too close to your ears, I’ve learnt the hard way!

Goodness @CupcakesK! I can imagine that would be possible though, they have a decent set of lungs on them, especially by this age.

Don't know why I didn't think of frozen veg either. Such good ideas.

We have had four teeth through in the last two days 😱 I feel your pain so deeply!

Anbusol is the best, instant relief, those teething powders are useless!
