Am I doing it wrong?

Hi all. FTM and have a 7 week old that constantly falls asleep when breastfeeding. Have tried all sorts to keep her awake but these rarely work. She normally wakes if I try put her down afterwards so only gets a little cat nap. I've been told she's doing this because she isn't getting enough sleep/naps and because I'm not trying to put her down to sleep eg following the eat, play, sleep pattern. I generally let her guide me to what she wants and to be honest all she wants to do is feed. Feel like I'm doing everything wrong now....any advice welcome.

Is she pooing and weeing enough? Gain weight? If the answer is yes then it’s fine.

Do you think she is falling asleep before she is finished a feed or is it the feeding to sleep that your concerned about?

As pp says are you getting enough wet and dirty nappies? Is baby gaining weight?

If so, it's all good. Babies tend to fall asleep at the end of a feed, or can even be fed mid sleep (dream feed). The Eat, Activity, Sleep routine doesn't work for most as babies tend to nod off towards the end of a feed as sucking is a soothing thing that helps them nod off (hence people using dummies to help their little ones soothe/nod off).

Both mine fell/fall asleep towards the end of a feed. I then turn them and keep them on my chest for about 20mins, so that they get into a deep sleep, before gently lowering them down into the sleepyhead during the day, or in the snuzpod at night (i swaddle them before that last feed, and whack some white noise on).

My first was a complete nightmare for falling asleep whilst breastfeeding. The health visitors weren't happy with her weight gain so recommended undressing her or tickling her to wake her up, then latch her back on. Each feed seemed to take forever. She did grow out of it eventually but I can't remember how old she was.
If your DC is putting on weight nicely then I wouldn't worry too much. Could you get her weighed at the clinic to help put your mind at ease?

Sorry just reread your post - if she wants to feed a lot at the moment I would just go with it as they can go through growth spurts. Just make sure you're drinking enough fluids if she's feeding more.

Tbb nothing you’ve written sounds that unusual unless the baby is losing weight
