Breastfeeding struggles

Hi all,

I've been exclusively breastfeeding for 14 weeks now.

Little girl was 4 weeks early and weighed 6'4 she's now 11 pounds.

It's been a struggle in the usual way, getting baby to latch, dealing with over supply and let down etc...

She always latched and has put on weight nicely....

My problem at the moment is she being really fussy for daytime feeds. She only ever feeds for max 5-8 mins on average. But she's pulling at my boob towards the end but once off wants to re-Latch only to pull off again. What is happening?

I cut out dairy from week 4 after persistent crying after feeds and arching her back (my first had a cows milk intolerance) so we suspected she might....slowly Ive been eating small bits with milk powder and egg and she's crying after feeds more....

She never cried or is sick during her night feeds just feeds efficiently for 7-8 minutes sometimes less and burps and goes back to sleep but daytime feeds are always a struggle.

Anyone had any similar experience or advice please?

Cheers

Sounds like she is putting on weight nicely. I wouldn't pay too much attention to timing the feeds - do your boobs feel like they're emptying? Shes probably just stronger and a more efficient feeder now. If she seems in discomfort you could give Infacol a go.

Could you contact the health visitor/breastfeeding support group for help on this?

Hi

I've been breastfeeding for nearly 10 months. It's honestly been a roller coaster of emotions but also the best experience. I feel we put a lot of pressure on ourselves when baby becomes fussy. I would suggest swapping over to the other side or let baby latch on and off at there leisure. I really don't know the reason why this is happening but good luck xx

Quite common for babies to start getting too interested in what’s going on around them to concentrate on feeding at this age, especially with a busy older sibling around. Do you think that might be what’s going on? kellymom.com/ages/older-infant/distractible-baby/

My little girl was very much like this until about 4-5 months when she suddenly started taking longer feeds. She was always a bit of a 'snacker' prior to that. If she is gaining weight I wouldn't be too worried.

My dd only ever fes for 8-10mins for every feed. she was just very efficient
