Hi all
I am a FTM to a 7 week old daughter who I adore. Since about 5 weeks she has got increasingly fussier and now just cries and eats. The only way she settles for sleep is in the sling. If i put her on my chest and try to encourage her to sleep she pushes away and gets increasingly agitated. She doesn't even like skin to skin.
I explained this to my HV and she said it's reflux and started her on carobel.
I just feel like crying all the time this week and that I'm failing her. I just don't know what's normal or not. I feel like we're not doing any tummy time or playing as I'm just trying to settle her or she spends all her time in the sling.
Is this just the normal fourth trimester way of things? I've read crying peaks at 6 weeks, dies anyone have any positive stories of crying calming down after 8 weeks

That is the peak crying age and it did happen with my little one and calmed down by 9 weeks xx hang in there, my little one only like being upright and that was it, wouldn't be held another way. Hang in there xxxxx

Hey @BelBabe

I’m FTM to a 8 week old and totally feel your pain. All he did was cry, eat frantically or finally pass out asleep yesterday. It’s very frustrating and when I’m in it I can’t imagine any fun or enjoyment. But today he’s been ok for a few hours. Tomorrow he’ll probably be difficult again... just trying to enjoy the windows where I feel in control x

Totally normal I'm afraid and no solution other than time. Things got a little better at 8 weeks for us, then by 4 months she was noticeably more settled. Before then she cried pretty much non-stop unless she was asleep in a sling.

My DS was a screamer. We treated him for silent reflux although never really confirmed whether that was an issue. It’s hard but it will get better, but don’t pin your hopes on any specific week as it’s very individual to the baby. Make sure you’re winding thoroughly and for long enough, keep baby upright after feeds. I found the Love to Dream arms up swaddle was very calming for my DS, particularly during the evening witching (three!) hour.

Between 7 and 11 weeks I will always remember as despairing; there was so much crying. It did get better though. We were prescribed ranitidine (although I think they have stopped this now) for silent reflux, although also not sure if that was even what he really had. Dummies and swaddling helped. Hang on in there.
