My 7 week old DD has not pooped for 8 days. It is clearly causing her distress as she spends al day squirming and straining, before the last full nappy she went 5 days and then 7 days before that, I am breast feeding only and have been told it is normal but she seems so distressed that i wondered if anyone had any tips to help her/me (the crying is getting pretty bad). Thank you

i havent a clue but bumping.... more liquid?

You could try gently massaging her tummy in a clockwise direction, and lie her on her back and gently make pedalling movements with her legs. That's what was suggested at baby massage.

ah yes ive heard that toooo..... my friends ds was constipated and she did this and he had a mega down the leg poo within hours- was happy though!

Thank you DD seems impervious to this but maybe i am not doing it for long enough - the pedalling thing - any idea how long she did it for each time?

I think you need to do the tummy massage for a few minutes (or as long as your dd enjoys it) and then the same with the pedalling.

Would she take a little bit of water from a cup between feeds? More liquid usually does help.

She doesn't like water, i have been giving her it but not too much, will give her some more, and will do tummy massage before pedalling and hope for poop! thank you so much!!

you could try fennel tea

How about a little bit of prune juice? Stew some prunes in lots of water, then strain of the liquid. The stewed prunes work wonders for dd now she is weaned

I got some prune juice, fresh in a carton, not ideal i know, but i put a tablespoon of that into a bottle of ebm and gave that to ds1.
or you can put it into a syringe and trickle it drop by drop into their mouth.
that's what worked for me anyhoo...
