Baby 8 days bringing up mucus

baby keeps trying to bring up mucus and it feels like he's gagging i get so freaked out is it normal for new babies? Is there anything else apart from rubbing his back that I can do to help him? It scares me so much because it feels like he can't breath

My 2nd was like this as he arrived so quickly. It was much better after about 2 weeks, have you mentioned it to HV or midwife? They can give him a check and set your mind at rest. I used to put a humidifier on in the room we were in to keep him looser

@emmaluggs same my one arrived early to so most probably hes got it bdcause of that too I did mention it on to the midwife last Wednesday she said its completely normal just tap him on the back but its the way they bring it up is scary he is 9 days today so hopefully he will be okay in a few days aswell

Yeah it is scary, but they usually manage it ok. I think it’s one of those things that sounds and looks worse than what it is, I also used saline drops in his nose and used one of those suckers which helped keep his nose clearer

Did you have a caesarean OP?

Caesarean babies can often be quite mucusy because they don't get 'squeezed' coming out.

As you can tell, that's not the technical, medical terminology! 😂

@emmaluggs yeah definitely looks more scary then it is hopefully he will be okay in a few days
@LatteLover12 no had a normal delivery lol I guess its because he came 2 weeks before his due date lol
