Em no but if it exceeds 24 hours be worried a little and over 48 ensure you contact your HV.

YoBeaches · 25/07/2020 18:52

Breast or bottle? Some breastfed babies only poo a few times a week.

TheletterZ · 25/07/2020 18:53

How are you feeding him/her? If you are worried and they seem in distress then contact you HV but my breastfed son went up to a week between poos (they were then rather big!).

He is currently making tacos for tea so strange to think back to when he was so tiny.

Breast or bottle fed? Are they still peeing ok?

SillyBub · 25/07/2020 18:56

Perfectly normal for an EBF baby to go a week or more without a poo.

dementedpixie · 25/07/2020 18:56

going a long time between poos tends to be at 5/6 weeks old not at the newborn stage.

MildDrPepperAddiction · 25/07/2020 19:01

A breastfed baby can go several days between BM. All mine were like this until weaning and then settled in to a once a day pattern.

WoWsers16 · 25/07/2020 19:03

I remember my newborn went for 6 days - I was breastfeeding - honestly when he finally pooed it was EVERYWHERE!!! Went over his head, all over my husband - that was a fun day lol!
My eldest went without pooing for 10 days when he was a few weeks old - and that pop was even more explosive! Shook the house lol

If you're concerned ring the midwife/health visitor xxx

Our baby (mixed bottle and breast) poos every 2-3 days. Has done since he was born. Admittedly, on day 3 he is grumpy and will push food away/get a lot of wind right up until he poos...then it's all smiles.

Not going to lie, every time we were concerned but lots of wees so we knew he wasn't dehydrated and his mood was fine (aside from that grumpiness).

His poos were always "firm" and not at all like I was told to expect.

okiedokieme · 25/07/2020 19:25

12, mine only pooed every 3-5 days. Normal for ebf babies

okiedokieme · 25/07/2020 19:27

Ps if that becomes the pattern, avoid going out on poo day, it's explosive!!!

I wouldn’t be worried until it’s been 5 days unless your baby is in pain or not feeding

Lindy2 · 25/07/2020 19:38

Breast fed babies do tend to poo less than formula fed babies.

If baby is breast fed I wouldn't be worried as long as there were still wees happening. Has baby had regular wet nappies? If not that would be cause for concern.

NishaaS123 · 25/07/2020 20:24

I am breast and bottle feeding he has been peeing no problem just hasn't pooed since 5am

Hi OP congratulations on your new arrival, I bet he is gorgeous.

My baby is four weeks now and we had this around day 5. Simjlar to above the midwife said 24 hours don't worry but keep watch, 48 hours let your midwife know especially if he's in pain or no wet nappies.

My baby didn't poo for almost 3 days around the time the poo was changing from green to yellow but when she did go yes it was explosive 🤣 and they kept coming with the nappy off...

Since the poops changed to yellow (she's breastfed) they have been very regular.

Long story short please don't worry, he will poop in the very near future and youll be happier than you've ever been to see a poo 😂 but it's quite usual. Enjoy your little angel x

I wouldnt worry. My Dd still goes every 2-3 days. I queried it and HV said it was fine. Congratulations x
