Is anyone else's child like this?! Dd is 5.1/2. She bugs me to play 'let's pretend' games with her what feels like every waking hour. Maternity ward hospitals is a favourite game. The doctor calls a seemingly endless list of patients through, babies are rarely actually born but there are lots of check ups and the odd cutlery c-section. Or my other 'favourite' is where I'm Nan (yey!), and my grandkids are here for a sleepover that seemingly never actually happens. Honestly it's lovely on paper and I know I'm look back fondly, but the constant bugging me, the refusal to play on her own /with her brother and the same games on loop is wearing rather thin... I've offered to play a board game, do drawing, playmobil, but she's moping now like I've taken a puppy away...

My DD is 5 and I get this a lot too! She is an only child, so I make the effort, but I find it exhausting (mentally) to play along. DH doesn’t get asked to join in as he doesn’t ‘play properly’ somehow! I try to time it for late morning/ late afternoon then say I can play until X time then I need to make lunch/ make dinner, that kind of thing.

I’ve also started saying that I can’t play for too long because it’s hard work for my brain, because I’m a grown-up and I’ve forgotten how to play properly. Not sure she’s convinced Grin
