Hi im just wondering what other people do in this situation my son is nearly 12 and starting high school in september we have relaxed bedtimes rules slightly over lockdown etc but my son seems to think he should be able to stay downstairs with me and his dad every night as he says he wants to spend time with us without his younger sister who is nearly 10 and younger brother who is 2 which i understand. His dad works nights and has 3 nights off a week ive tried explaining that we need time on our own but he just doesnt get it and thinks we dont want him around at night we have said that during the week he can stay downstairs till 9pm and at weekends 9.30pm but then is able to go upstairs n read etc does this sound fair and what do other people do? Thanks

That seems fair. Set the rules, explain them and stick to them.
