I very much doubt you read MN but to the woman who ran after me as I left the supermarket today - THANK YOU

it was one of those days, wound up to the point of snapping by .... well take your pick, you know how it is. However the last straw was the Fragrant Boys demanding constantly "I want this, but mum I want that" and normally I can rise about it but we'd been to the beach and had icecreams and played and had fun and all I needed to do was nip in to the supermarket and buy two things without relentless demands.

But in the long and slow moving queue the FBs act like monkeys and get in people's way etc etc. I start barking at them like Ray Winstone and then loose the will to live, drop my basket, grab the kids and storm out ranting leaving the General Public tutting etc and the kids in tears

Of course I feel like Sh&te, a total cow but I realise I can turn it around so I drive to another supermarket and when I've finished ranting and saying awful things about cloth ears and worse. I park up and then in a calm way I talk the kids through the ensuing supermarket experience step by step charting what is expected of them and telling them they have a chance to show me they can behave.

We are in and out in 5 minutes, good as gold, talked through every stage, praised accordingly and congratulated on exiting and hugged.

Then a very Nice Lady came rushing out saying she just wanted to commend my communication with my kids! She said she knew it was a hard job and challenging but she wanted to say how well we all did. I clutched her arm and confessed that 15 minutes ago I was Uber Bitch and that I was trying to turn all our behaviours around and that she had made my day in giving me support

so Thank You, you really helped me turn things around

fireflyfairy2 · 30/09/2007 12:33

Awwwwww how lovely that someone notices when you are a good mother instead of the usual people tutting & posting on MN when you have been a cowy mam!

suzywong · 30/09/2007 12:35

it was possibly the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me and came at just the right time.

but apart from being all about ME, I wanted to post this to say that it IS possible to turn Shitty days around if you persevere and address EVERYONE"S behaviour, not just the kids', I mean mine aswell

We were once in a restaurant in edinburgh after having spent all day at the zoo, all abs knackered, started feeling very uncomfy as the table next to us was obviously talking about the kids, thought they were going to ask to be moved away from kids, when one of the group taps me on the shoulder and says I jsut wanted to tell you how proud you should be of your kids and how well they are behaving,

I was floored, took a clear 5 secs for me to respond,

edam · 30/09/2007 17:59
