How often do your babies fart?
Im beginning to wonder if there is something the matter. My son is three months, and has started to fart loads in the last month or so.

Literally every 20 minutes or so. Even during sleep.

Not constipated. Poos daily and always normal. Formula fed. Decent varied solids. No new or odd food added recently.

So tell me, do you have a miniature fart machine? Grin

Yes all the live long day! She’s 13 weeks and my second but I don’t remember DC1 being this bad Confused They smell horrible and I’ve wondered if it’s my diet (she’s BF) but same as you she’s not constipated and doesn’t seem bothered by it apart from when they wake her up!

Er, he's 3 months and on solids? Maybe a sign his digestive system can't cope?

Ihaveoflate · 25/07/2020 09:02

Sorry, have I read that right? Is your 3 month old on solids? I really try not to judge anyone else's parenting choices, but I honestly don't think you should be doing that!

Your 3 month old is on solids?

Bitchinkitchen · 25/07/2020 09:09

Your baby is farting because his digestive system isn't yet ready for solid food. 4 months is the very earliest you should be feeding him solids (only pureed veg/fruit, nothing else), and even that is too soon unless you've been advised by a doctor.

bananamonkey · 25/07/2020 11:31

Oh I missed the solids comment, erm yes that’s not advised and probably the cause.

Hiphopopotamus · 25/07/2020 11:33

Why are you feeding your 3 month old solids?

Jphunt · 25/07/2020 21:22

@aimzxd @Bitchinkitchen @Hiphopopotamus @ShirleyPhallus @Ihaveoflate @bananamonkey
I was advised to try him on solids for some reason by doctor could he not be ready im guessing as even I thought its quite early for him at only 3 month but that was what the doctor said.
Could that be making him fart a lot?

Thanks

If you are in the UK the guidelines are that solids shouldn't be introduced before 6 months unless on medical advice but even then it would be very rare for this to be advised before 4 months at the earliest.

Jphunt · 25/07/2020 21:30

@Justmemyself It is highly possible that the doctor may have been wrong then as they only spoke to me over phone call.
shall I stop solid foods until he is around 6 months.
Should this stop the issue?

Why on earth did a doctor tell you to give food to a 3 month old baby?!!

Ihaveoflate · 25/07/2020 22:04

I was told to wean early for medical reasons but not before 17 weeks and only if my baby was ready.

I cannot believe you were told by an NHS doctor to wean your 3 month old baby. Is there a chance you misunderstood?

Shayisgreat · 25/07/2020 22:15

Yes, I have never heard of being advised to provide solid food before 17 weeks at the very earliest with 6 months being the age that most babies should start solids.

I think you should either contact the doctor again to claify or speak to your hv to check that the advise you've been given is correct. Why did the doctor suggest solids?

When you say "for some reason" - what is the issue the doctor is trying to address?
