Bedtime routine

What age did you start a bed time routine with your baby?

I recall with my first Daughter that we started about 5 months because she started waking every hour of the night.

My second Daughter is 4 months old and has started staying up and whingeing until about 10 at night even though she is really tired and has been fed, she just can't seem to get to sleep.

Considering starting a routine of bath, bottle, bed now but is 4 months a bit too early?

I always did a night time routine but more for me than my LO- I liked to bath and put her in a sleep onesie and change myself come night time. Doesn’t mean I expected any true sleep pattern, and I breastfed to sleep over and over again all night or she was kept downstairs with me until I went to bed. But I felt more human.

DD it was about 4 months. She fell into an evening routine of her own accord and so we went with it. We had her in her own room from then (against guidelines).

DS it wasn’t until 11 months. He was quite lively in the evening and fed loads then too. He spent all evening with us downstairs and came to bed when we did about 11ish (in our room and largely cosleeping). I did gentle sleep training to get him in a bedtime routine at 11 months, in his own room, in anticipation of maternity leave ending.

I started a routine at 3 months even though at that stage she was still falling asleep in my arms at about 9pm and being transferred to the cot. Bedtime got earlier naturally and was at 7pm from around 5 months. At that point she was going down in her cot straight away.

We still have the same routine now at 1 year.

I suggest you to read the writings of Ann Schuler she can help you with the sleeping problem of your baby. You can get her report here: bit.ly/Baby-Sleep-Miracle-Trick

I started it at 4 months with both my children; my first was like yours and needed it and my second was naturally falling asleep in the evenings so it made sense

Started a bottle bath bed routine at about 3 month with DS. Nothing exciting and no set time, just go with the flow when he asks for his last bottle.

I started at 3 months. It wasnt a schedule (with timings), just a routine (a series of events). Ive clarified this because I think theres some confusion between the two. We did bath/bottle/bed, and actually put him to bed. He was also in his own room, which I know others wont be happy to do.

It worked really well, has seen us through the worst of the 4 month sleep regression (we're still in it, but have seen the worst of it I think). He goes down each night without a drama now, which I entirely put down to the routine because he's a pain in the bum when it comes to daytime naps.

I started a bedtime routine from 4weeks old, it is bathtime bottle then quite time with story and lays in crib with cot mobile on, his now 19 weeks and I’ve kept to it. Settles well every night.
