Not always responding to name

At the beginning of lockdown I noticed Oscar wasn’t responding to his name all of the time usually when he was either watching tv or doing something naughty.

So I started focusing a lot more on him responding to his name I was giving him lots of praise when he responded ect.

But now I’ve stopped doing it I noticed he’s not always responding again.

It’s like selective hearing is that a thing?

How old is he?

midnightstar66 · 11/07/2020 23:07

Yes, he clearly can respond as you've tested that. He likely just doesn't want to!

Yep, my little one had selective hearing. How old is he?

I think if you have tested his hearing and you know that's fine, then yes, he's just being selective and you are not as interesting as his task in hand.

How old is Oscar ?

When I was 5/6/7 I had quite bad glue ear and my hearing could genuinely vary, including by task. If I was reading, so visual clues blocked out, I could absolutely miss my name - & got smacked for being rude/ignoring my parents more than once. Until diagnosis.

DS2 also has brilliant selective hearing just like his father
