Baby doesn't want to roll?

Did anyone have one like that?

He's 6 months old and for a long time he's been able to twist his body to look wherever he wants but won't roll. He can easily roll to his side to grab stuff but then won't roll over.

It's like he has no interest in it. He hates tummy time a lot, when I put him on tummy he just lays his head down sideways and chills. Grin

I don't remember, it's far too long ago and we didn't have 'tummy time' in those days but if it means putting your baby on her/his 'tummy', we did that :-).

Does it matter than doesn't roll? He's not in competition with anyone. From other things you say, he sounds fine.

Babies do things at different stages and some don't do the usual ones, like crawling for example; I've known babies who didn't crawl, they 'bottom travelled' and then one day got up and walked.

My LO is just over 7 months and she was able to roll onto her tummy but didn't and still doesn't really want to roll back. When she does it ends up more like a splat which is sometimes quite upsetting for her (and me 🙈) but luckily we have foam tiles down so it's nothing major.

We recently met another baby who is the same age as my LO. She can crawl and is trying to walk. My LO can move sideways and backwards but not forwards so it feels like they're apart developmentally. I think I just have to remember every baby is different and do things at their own rates.

I found that my LO liked tummy time more when she had the tummy time cushion under her chest. That or doing it on us helps. No baby likes tummy time but i promise you that it does pay off eventually.

I'm not too worried as he's my second and my first one took ages to do everything, and he's fine now. But he did roll around 6 months, this one has no desire to do it at all!

He seems to like social interaction more and isn't too fussed with moving about, so just wondered if others had similar babies Smile

Sounds like my lo. She rolled around 7.5 months. They just do it in their own time.

My dd is 13 months and still can't roll from back to front! She's like a stuck cockroach on her back! 😆 She can however do everything else that is expected of a 1 year old: sit, bum shuffling (no crawling), getting up on her feet, cruising furniture. Who knows when or if she'll master the roll!

andtellyouofmydreaming · 08/07/2020 21:26

Sounds similar to my two! My son was crazy about rolling - would roll from one end of the room to another at 6 months. My daughter is now 6 months and will sometimes roll to reach something but not overly fussed. And like your second one more interested in social interaction than the first!

My first never rolled! She went straight to sitting. Theres nothing wrong with her development she just didn't want to roll!

Fivebyfive2 · 08/07/2020 21:33

My almost 7 month old is like this! He can and will roll from front to back but has only ever rolled back to front twice, both times to get a better look at our cat 😂 Mostly he just twists on his side. He sits well and is really sociable,is trying to crawl but can't manage it yet. He's my first but I'm trying to be relaxed about it as I know all babies are different.

Yup, my little boy showed no interest in rolling at all and didn't do it til he started crawling at 11 months!

pinkgin85 · 08/07/2020 22:21

@Fivebyfive2 he's the same! If one of us is in the room he will twist like a pretzel to take a look but won't roll!

Thanks all, I know they all take their time and he's a lot more sociable than my first at this age so it's clear how different babies can be!

That's good to know! I really think he will skip the rolling stage and go straight to sitting and crawling, which is okay!

My son didn't roll until nearer a year old! He has hypermobile hips (like his dad and nan) which isn't a big deal but means he struggled with some of his gross motor skills. He's doing great now though and was walking by 16 months.

Ijustcalled · 09/07/2020 12:27

Both my two maybe rolled once at around 6 months than never did it again. No interest. 4 and 2 now and no problems.
