7 month old hitting his head

DS is 7 months and has started hitting himself on the head. He's not upset and it doesn't appear to hurt him. I can hear him hitting himself though and it leaves a red mark. Is this normal or should we be concerned?

Teething maybe? Where abouts does he hit himself?

It's his right temple. He also beats his chest sometimes too but more often his head. He doesn't rock or hit his head off the mattress or anything like that. He punches himself in the head.
