If so, do they point/clap/wave?

DD is 1 in a few weeks. She claps now and then but no waving/pointing. Just looks at me like I'm mad when I do it! All the other babies in her group seem to be pointing and waving their hearts out!

However she is cruising confidently (can bend down to pick something up etc), loves her toys and plays with them all day pretty much. She can say mama and dada, she also knows 'doggy' but can't say it properly yet. She turns around if I say her name, and if I say 'ta' she will pass me whatever she is holding.

Emotionally she is a bit up and down, she is quite scared of strangers and cries hysterically if I leave the room/go out of sight. If something frightens her she throws herself at me and clings to me. But otherwise she is very smiley, likes to be tickled and lifts her arms to be picked up etc.

She also does this odd little thing where she brings both hands up to her eye level, and sort of opens and closes her fingers in a sort of inverted beckoning gesture. Apparently it is a baby sign for 'milk' but we havent taken her to signing classes Hmm

Her 1 year review was over the phone so she hasn't been 'seen' by HV in ages, as a FTM I just wondered whether she seems to be doing okay for her age? Thanks for your help!

Me! Your child sounds perfectly normal.

Yes that is the sign for milk, does she go to nursery or childminders?

My little one is 11 1/2 months. She is a confident walker but this is early. She signs milk and occasionally more. Claps hands, but she didn’t for ages and then I got annoyed and said DD clap your hands and she did. Says mama and dada but it’s random and does not seem to apply to us. She says ‘na, na, na’ for no and ‘uh-oh’. No waving or hand pointing. My HV said they are really asking can they communicate their wants.

If you are that way inclined then get a copy of Mary Sheridens birth to 5 as it has detailed mile stones.

Shoe sounds completely and utterly normal.

@Lockdownseperation no she has never been to nursery or childminder so it is a bit of a mystery really! She watches her hands intently while she does it - I wouldve thought she is too old to be discovering her hands now?

Thanks for both of your reassurance, much appreciated xx

Maybe she just starting to identify that she has control over her hands, obviously she did before but maybe now she is aware of it.

Sounds totally normal to me too
