Hi I just want to know what people do regarding letting their children help themselves to food or do you just give 3 meals and snacks and that's it?

I've got a 10 and 5 year old and I want to know if others let their children help themselves to food?

we have snack baskets. a small basket containing their snacks for the day (and a waterbottle/glass to reuse since it saves me washing some over and over again). It's mostly filled with pieces of fruit and veggie sticks, but I put in one sweet snack (usually something like a bears yoyo or a flapjack). They can help themselves when they feel like a snack, but when all the snacks are gone, they aren't refilled, so it makes them think about whether they are bored or hungry.

I like that idea sleep, do they nick each others stuff when they've scoffed theirs?

@SnowdropFox I haven't ever caught them doing it! I put the baskets in the kitchen though, so I'm in there quite a lot, and I put names on the baskets so they can't say that they got confused. Since they all have the same items anyway and there is only one sweet item, they are probably less inclined to nick each others anyway. :)
