Newborn sick, whats normal?

My 3 week old vomits the entire contents of her stomach up about every other day. Is this normal? Shes bright, plenty of wet and dirty nappies and wants to feed straight after. I knew babies spat up but didnt expect this kind of volume.

TIA

Hi OP it could be reflux is it’s a large quantity . It’s normal for babies to spit up a little after every feed but as you said the whole contents sounds more like reflux . Is your baby taking a lot of air in while she feeds? Is she feeding propped upright or lying flat? I would mention to your health visitor.

HV is useless and told me to keep an eye on it. Support is rubbish with covid.

She squirms/cries, pulls of the nipple towards the end of a feed, she also squirms when we put her on her back, although we can get 2/3 hour sleeps so if it is reflux i dont think its severe?

Hi! My baby did this. It wasnt reflux, it was because I wasnt burping him enough and all the air built up inside him, which made him uncomfortable and vomity.

I let him have a little, burped him, gave him some more, etc etc. I also used infacol, which defo helped in the early days. It made each feed last ages but he did keep more food down. Hes 3.5months old now and I dont have to do that anymore or use the infacol. I think hes just better able to deal with the wind now.

Thanks for your reply! Did you try different feeding positions?? Infacol stopped the vomiting??

Infacol made him easier to burp, which in turn made him vomit less I think
