5 week old EBF poop

My 5 week old EBF DD has always had really watery, sometimes explosive poop with very little or no ‘seeds.’ Recently it has changed from yellow to more of a green tinge. She’s always pooped after every feed, poops when she passes gas, is a very gassy baby in general. Been told by breastfeeding support workers that I probably have a fast letdown and possible oversupply, paired with the fact DD has posterior tongue tie and poor latch (waiting for appointment for revision). Already block feeding on one breast at a time, tried different feeding positions. Basically don’t know what to do and if EBF is actually causing baby more harm than good :( she looks so uncomfortable with the wind and gets really frustrated on the breast at times. She’s gaining weight well though. Just looking for any tips and basically reassurance!

Babies have a lot more wind and get sick more with formula. You could try breast feeding alternated with formula and see if that helps?

This sounds EXACTLY like my baby! Early on I did show the watery (kind of stringy?) poo to the GP and mentioned the constant gassiness to the HV, and neither seemed concerned. I’ve always just assumed her digestive system is taking its time to regulate properly. At 12 weeks she is now much better at passing wind and doesn’t seem uncomfortable all the time. Her poos are still very frequent, still watery and there was a time where she had green poos for a couple of days and then they went yellow again, with maybe a one-off green poo here or there at other times. I have never block fed and she is gaining absolutely loads of weight. Not sure if this helps because I don’t know whether I should have done more (I’m a FTM and don’t know what’s ‘normal’!) but wanted to let you know your baby is not the only one like this.

My first baby was exactly like this. The tt needs to be sorted ASAP and NHS appointments when they come through could be another month or two away in my experience. Can you afford to go private? It’s about £120 approx I think, it could be done this week then? 3 out of 4 of my children have had posterior tongue tie.

Sounds similar-ish to my ds and he was ebf. It got a lot better when he was around 8 weeks+. I think their digestion sometimes needs to mature a bit.
My ds also had so many green poos. HV or GP never seemed concerned.

Thanks for the reassurance! I’ll look into getting her tongue tie revised privately ASAP. Hopefully this will all improve as she gets older!
