are you sure its channel 3? I have a programme about shoplifters! But on Channel 4 is a programme on! There is also a thread running!

Olihan · 25/09/2007 21:35

I turned it off for that reason, just couldn't listen to her past 'baby should go in its own room from the outset, you only go in to feed every 4 hours' and didn't want to watch.

I'm watching Friends reruns now, much easier on the nerves!

omg, just came online in hope of finding thread like this before going to bed. I'm with Oli, just turned it off - made me feel sick. I'm shaking.

missyhols · 25/09/2007 22:04

In shock at poor lo being left to cry at days old. Leaving a baby outside for hours on her own? Ffs is she off her rocker? I know thats how it was done but its SO harsh!

Elasticbandstand · 25/09/2007 22:06

cannot add to such a big thread, so glad i could add to this one

what a smug peice of work, that's why people pay me £1000,!!
who on earth would do that. it is so cruel

Ulysees · 25/09/2007 22:09

On Dr phil today a couple of baby drs said that leaving babies to cry for long periods is really bad for them physically, raises BP and cortisol.
Didn't watch this programme and think I'm glad I missed it?

TwoToTango · 25/09/2007 22:19

I only saw a few mins of it - after she told the parents not to make eye contact, hold the baby away from them and told the dad not to pick up/touch the baby I couldn't watch it any more.

cruisemum1 · 25/09/2007 22:28

the woman is a witch. makes me feel utterly sick to the pit of my stomach. I am defo writing aletter of complaint tomorrow. that is if it does not impinge on my precious time with my beautiful baby boy. the woman should be burned at the stake

OP posts:
chocbutton · 25/09/2007 22:28

Can't understand why the parents have agreed to this - they are clearly upset by it! I have never heard anything so cruel as ignore baby, leave in the garden, don't make eye contact, don't cuddle etc! How can she be called a childcare expert? Felt sick watching this

cruisemum1 · 25/09/2007 22:29

no eye contact . that is as bad as the leaving to cry. I feel devastated for those poor poor babies and incredibly at teh stupid moronic parents who went along with her barbaric notions on parenting.

OP posts:
daisyhun · 25/09/2007 22:30

OMG I actually think that could be criminally neglectful to leave a baby outside in your garden for 3 hours at a time with the door closed. It only takes someone to nip over the fence....

Very upset by that woman - upset to think anyone would actually take her advice and treat their LO like that.

Someone needs to go on the pregnancy/childbirth threads and tell mums-to-be to ignore that programme completely!

cruisemum1 · 25/09/2007 22:30

chocbutton - she is not a parenting expect, she is a business woman. fecking beeech.

Elasticbandstand · 25/09/2007 22:31

the mother who brought her childrn up in 1950's hinted that all was not always s good about leaving them in the garden! but no more was said.
um, pneumonia for one

cruisemum1 · 25/09/2007 22:31

gotta go - need to cuddle/kiss/touch my beautiful lo's before I go to bed

Tis being repeated on more 4 for anyone that missed it!

It is shocking. I'm wondering where the midwives are - surely they would advise against newborn in freezing garden with back door shut!! and all the other crap going on. The garden thing though - not only can the parents not hear the child - they can't see if a bee stings, someone climbs into the garden ... shudder!!

I'm thinking these babies are not as newborn as they are trying to make out? Surely 'day 1' meant day 1 of routine, not babies first day - noone could leave their baby like that on their first day surely!

chocbutton · 25/09/2007 22:52

Just back from Bf'ing my DS - what would CV say to that I wonder!!!
Anyway, meant to add before that I am sure one of the mums on the 1950's routine was a childminder and wanted the routine so she could get back to work......well I'd rather leave my baby with a tramp in the street than her if tonight's programme was anything to go by - how can she be a childminder and yet leave her brand new baby sobbing??

Also felt v sorry for BF mum after her horrid birth experience as well - she needs to come on here for support

Elibean · 26/09/2007 08:46

dh wondered out loud what the NSPCC would have to say about some of those 'parenting' techniques. I wonder too...

sammysam · 26/09/2007 10:56

she really needs to be banned from looking after children. I am angry, shocked and upset. Plus if the whole idea is to see which babies will be in a routine and their parents 'back to normal' fastest i have a bad feeling it might be hers............but wtf will they turn out to later-with ALL their emotions repressed and their parents unble to show them affection????????!!!!!

her whole argument that the method has been used for years-who cares? we're in 2007 now-we know better!!!!!!!

and on that point nearly EVERYONE has central heating now (not in the 50s) so the shock of temp change when they eventually bring the poor frozen little mites in will be extreme!

Saying all this....i will watch it again (with stomach in mouth) to hopefully see that one of the other methods (and both) come out on top..........and hopefully to see this method well and truely FLOP!!!

I hpe those parents see the light and stop before the end
