Toilet training

DS is mostly non verbal and I'm really struggling with getting him to use the toilet. He starts crying if he goes near the toilet and will refuse. Because of this and making no indication of needing to go, he'll just do what he needs to do where he is sitting. Any advice please? I do believe he is on the ASD spectrum but waiting to go ahead with diagnosis.

Keep him in nappies or pull-ups for the time being. Don’t cause negative associations with using the loo because you feel he should be potty trained. It’s not worth it for either of you.

How old is he?

ASD or not, it doesnt sound like hes anywhere near accepting toilet training. I think id stop for now and try again when lockdown has lifted and things are more back to 'normal'

He'll be 5 next month. Not at school yet as we decided to wait a year since he's one of the youngest anyway and wanted to catch him up in other areas. I do tend to let him keep the pull ups on, he's had a bad rash the past week so tried to keep him free as much as possible.
