Baby first day away from me, hasn’t eaten much

My 8 month old spent 6 hours at his grandparents today whilst I had to work. This is the first time he’s ever been away from me and he was super happy throughout the day which I’m so pleased about.
He hasn’t eaten much there or drunk much. Is this normal for first time away from me as his mum? I’ve tried to top him up with feeding him before bedtime etc to make sure he’s not hungry. But just wondered.

It was normal for mine when he started nursery at around the same age. I still breastfed in the evenings/overnight and found he woke more initially, presumably to make up for the calories he wasn't consuming through the day. As he got more used to the setting and routine there he slowly started to eat more and now finishes anything and everything they give him Smile

Thank you. That’s reassuring to know. I’m sure as he gets used to being away from me he’ll start to relax and eat more. He won’t accept a bottle so put expressed milk in one of those munchkin sippy cups as he drinks water well from one. Made sure it was a different colour to the one he has water in. But he wasn’t keen to have more than a couple of sips x

My son was exactly the same the first few times my parents looked after him. He wouldn't take milk or eat much at all. But he soon settled down. I think it's normal tbh

Totally normal, don't worry. You'll probably find he'll be up more at night to make up for it. One tip is to get grandparents to give him a yoghurt if he's not taking a feed, it's usually better received and tops him up a bit more too.
