Worried about toddlers speaking..

Hello,

I know this may be nothing but I'm getting concerned about my little ones speech, he is coming up 2 in august and seems to not be saying many words, he can say and associate things together for instance the Alexa he knows to say ABBA and it'll play, he can say bubble, wave goodbye/hello, tried to say birdies but comes out with buh whilst pointing to the sky, can say dada, not mama, tried to get his tongue round grandad and has achieved this a few times, knows the actions for songs (twinkle twinkle / wind the bobbin up), has his likes and dislikes etc..

But compared to others his age he doesn't seem to be talking, when should I particularly worry about this? Is there anything I can get that may help him? Flash cards etc?

Any help would be most appreciated, he is going to nursery at the end of the year and hoping this may help him along a little bit.

Thank you Grin

That sounds a lot like DD who’s now 27 months- I was worried too but the health visitor said it’s not unusual, especially if one of the parents was a late talker (which DP was). Since she was home all the time over lockdown I’ve made sure we read loads together every day and she’s had a little language explosion and is picking up new words every day now. She went back on Monday and the nursery workers all commented on it. She’s still a little bit behind some of her friends who are putting two or three words together but I’m feeling a bit more confident about her catching up.
