When do kids start liking ball pits?

DS is 8.5 months and starting to get very mobile. We bough a play pen to stick him in when we're in the shower (not together, you understand, just when only one of us in) and I put play balls but he hates it. Is this likely to be temporary or is he too young?

Keep those balls hidden for as long as possible. As soon as he gets to like them (and he will fairly soon), he will realise that they can be thrown around and you will have them everywhere in your house. They drive me mad.

does he like the play pen? my ds (10.5mths) loves the balls in paddling pool, and generally throws them round the house. i agree with belgo - just when you think you've rounded them all up, another 3 pop up!

DD has never really liked the bigger ball pools. She had a small one at home and used it maybe a dozen times with the balls in. At soft play she always avoids them even do.
