Baby worse on Similac

My ds is 3 weeks old. He displays signs of silent reflux and tummy/gas problems which have got progressively worse since he was a few days old. We started him on cow and gate - he seemed so uncomfortable after every feed, crying, straining in pain. Dr prescribed gaviscon, which did nothing and made him vomit thick, curdled milk. Next he was prescribed Similac to see if it helped. We're on day 4 now of similac and there is no improvement - if anything I feel like he's worse. Especially spitting up and vomiting more (maybe because similac is thinner than cow and gate?) Has anyone's baby had similar problems and what eventually worked? Should we consider a completely lactose free formula? He's in such discomfort, painful gas and tummy rock hard after every bottle, it just doesn't seem to be agreeing with him.

There is a really good CMPA Facebook page you should join with people who will know about different formulas for babies with allergies and medications related to reflux
