Food and behaviour advice

I’ve noticed a pattern with DS (8) of really grumpy, defiant behaviour within half an hour of packed lunches/picnics and wondered if we are getting the content wrong. Any advice?
Normal lunch would be
2-3 small houmous wraps
Cherry tomatoes, mini peppers
Sausage roll or cocktail sausages
Crisps
Yoghurt
Grapes
Biscuit

Thanks

There's nothing obviously wrong with the content.

Does he eat it? Does he say he likes it? Do you notice similar issues if he has sugar at other times? Seems strange to only be related to picnics?

It’s not the lunch.

Thanks. If it’s not the lunch then that’s fine-we have broader behaviour issues but wanted to exclude this as a factor. He does eat it.
I’ve posted another thread about our overall failings in parenting and behaviour. Please be gentle I’m pretty vulnerable right now.

Contrary to PP, I would say that is quite a sugary lunch however this is only an issue if after other sugar meals you have the same behaviour

Whattodowithaminute · 21/06/2020 08:56

He isn’t great with sugar and it’s more than he would normally have...

Then maybe it's that, although obviously it could be so many other things, including just a phase.

Maybe try the reducing sugar intake for 7 days and see if it has any difference?

The likelihood is that if you go and see anyone about behaviour, they might ask you to keep a food diary for 7 says.

Whattodowithaminute · 21/06/2020 09:13

Thanks @2007Millie I don’t think it’s the whole issue at all but anything that could help would be useful. If I replace the crisps, biscuit and grapes with a homemade oat bar do you think it would help? Or any other recommendations?

@Whattodowithaminute

That sounds great, or maybe just look at alternative crisps options (I think the Sunbites whole meal ones are quite good) or things like the belvita biscuits as a treat.

Also don't forget that unless it just natural/Greek, yoghurt is packed with sugar.

I think the good thing is you sound really open to change and suggestions so whatever happens, I'm sure you'll get it sorted
