Baby keeps punching herself

My 5 1/2 month old keeps giving herself punches to the face . It seems like an excited behaviour. Shes flails her arms around. Punches her hands about and gets punches to the face. Seems very unfazed by it. But obviously not nice to see. I just try to distract her with toys. Just wondering if anyone elses babies have done/are doing this? And if it's normal behaviour?

My little boy used to do this, he swung one of his hands to his head in a punching motion but it also never bothered him.

He’s 13 months old now and grew out of it a few months ago.

My d's is 23 months but she used to hit herself on the head(not hard)when she got excited. She still does it sometimes but always with a smile on her face.
