He's 3, and has been whatever it is for 3/4 days. What I know so far:

  1. I can't cut his nails because he needs them to fight owls
  1. He left his babies in his burrow, in south America (no idea where that came from, but he wants me to take him to South America to get them)
  1. He swims to catch fish

A beaver? Eagle? I wouldn't assume all three statements actually coincide in any real creature!

HavelockVetinari · 15/06/2020 12:52

An otter?

Nanasueathome · 15/06/2020 12:52

Capybara

DappledThings I know it could be a made up or composit animal, but the mention of south America makes me think it's something he's watched on TV.

Sounds like an otter to me too!

Ring Tailed Coati ( South American Racoon)?

FelicityPike · 15/06/2020 13:27

Bless.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 15/06/2020 13:40

Beaver?

ForeverBubblegum · 15/06/2020 13:44

Update - apparently it doesn't swim, it "splashes into the water", not sure what the difference is but DS is adamant I'm wrong to say swimming.

How big?
I’m still thinking capybara

ForeverBubblegum · 15/06/2020 14:11

Capybara could be possible, I remember seeing them in octonorts. I'll ask

Check Andy's animal adventures schedule from 3/4 days ago, he's a combination of whatever was on there.

ForeverBubblegum · 15/06/2020 14:22

I showed him a picture and it's not a capybara

So pleased to hear you have this in your house too. DD has been an otter (with a brother called Sayan and a sister called Rosalie) for about a week now.

Every so often the entire otter family get a headache and need to be fed: "citrus and soup" (chicken noodle) and "get some good rest" for a while.

Sometimes they receive a "phonecall" from a friend, and the friend "sounds awful" because they have a sore throat then we all have to visit the friend, taking the doctor with us, to administer medicine.

Turns out it was basilisk lizard, it splashes into the water to escape a hawk (not an owl, but close enough). It is found in south America, but no idea where the burrow of babies fits in.

Your DS sounds awesome OP! My Ds2 was a dog for years. (Not 24/7 thankfully)
He would only answer to his dog name, drank water from a bowl (Grin) and played fetch with a ball. He drew the line at dog food thankfully!
